How does SolarDesk calculate?

Know what every step rests on, from load calculation to the report. SolarDesk is a calculation tool that works under the engineer’s control.

Technical methodology

Load calculation
Based on EN 1991-1-4 and EN 1991-1-3.
Model generation
Follows common manufacturing and installation practice in the sector. The model takes a realistic approach, including support and connection types and load cases.
Automatic section selection
The candidate sections you choose for each member group are evaluated, and the lightest section closest to the target stress ratio is assigned. The final section decision and engineering verification remain with the user.
Bill of quantities
SolarDesk communicates directly with your SAP2000 model after design. Section and length data are processed from real results and converted into strip width and black and galvanised weight.
Reporting
You get a summary report you can use in your quotes and structural analysis reports.

How you use it

  1. Choose the project type

Standard or soft/zero shading system, driven pile or concrete ballast foundation: pick the type that fits your project.

    SolarDesk project type selection screen
  2. Enter the project data

Define module dimensions, layout, post spacing and connection details. Purlin and rafter lengths are calculated for you.

  3. Set up your sections

Use the built-in section library or add your own sections and materials. Mark the candidate sections to be considered for each member group.

  4. Loads are calculated automatically

Wind and snow loads are calculated from location and system geometry, and are ready to pass to the model together with module and temperature loads.

  5. Sections assigned, SAP2000 model built

Enter a target stress ratio. SolarDesk assigns each member group the lightest section closest to the target and builds an analysis-ready SAP2000 model in one click.

  6. Your bill of quantities is generated

Section, count, length and weight data come straight from the real model. You see the total steel weight and tonnage per MW at once.

  7. Get the report, send the quote

Export the engineering report as a PDF. Combine different table types into a single quote file, each with its layout plan, elevation and quantities.

Why SolarDesk?

  • Fast analysis

SAP2000 integration and automatic load calculation shorten your engineering process, so your time goes to design.

  • Calculation based on standards

Loads are calculated to EN standards. Fewer manual data transfers mean fewer errors and structural reports you can rely on.

  • Cost control

The bill of quantities generated after analysis shows the cost of your projects clearly, so you can budget accurately.
